What is Belly Dance??

Also called Middle Eastern Dance, raqs sharqi, or Oriental Dance, Belly Dancing traces it's roots to ancient feminine religious rituals in the Middle East. Today, dancers dance for many reasons: Fitness, Performing, or just plain fun!

Can I Do It?

Any one can do it!

Your age and shape are irrelevant. You can be of any height, weight, sex, age group and background to come to Bellydance classes. Bellydance is ideal if you want to get fit but don't like traditional exercise. Don't worry if you've never had dance experience - any one can learn. In fact it's so much fun that you learn to dance without even realizing it! And it's low impact, so there's a low risk of injury. It's the perfect exercise for any one because, besides the fun factor, it firms and tones your entire body including legs, arms and tummy.

Our Classes

a'Halah Dance Company teaches Middle Eastern Dance with a strong focus on understanding the rhythms commonly found in Middle Eastern music. We offer physical understanding of the dance, as well as cultural and historical background.

Our classes range three levels of instruction and a student troupe class. Each level concentrates on important aspects of the dance, including (but not limited to) technique, and improvisation. Choreography is taught in the student troupe class.

We offer two entry levels to accept students from all backgrounds:

  • Those new to belly dancing may enter into our Level One class.
  • All levels are welcome to take student troupe.

About

a'Halah Dance Company began over 10 years ago as a group of dancers teaching and performing for the Society for Creative Anachronism. In 2002, Carmen and Carrie decided to offer our popular technique to all students. When Kira's Oasis opened it's doors in 2003, we were honored to be the first to teach bellydance in such a lovely studio.

Having recently moved, Carmen has begin teaching in the RTP area of North Carolina. Patty continues to teach in the Greater Dayton Area.
